ATELIER PROGRAM AT KING PLOW
Fine Arts Workshop is pleased to offer a true Atelier experience–a tradition of knowledge and studio practice that link together artists spanning nearly 700-years. This program is the heartbeat of Fine Arts Workshop. It has two tiers—a Studio Program and an At-Large Program. The Atelier Program is comprised of specific structures—from studio space, to one-on-one guidance, to group critiques—that provide the discipline and support for necessary for personal and artistic growth. Led by Michael David, who has taught Graduate Painting at Savannah College of Art & Design and Princeton University, and whose work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum, the Atelier Program provides a one of a kind environment of instruction, career development, and artistic community and support.

Studio Space
In addition to the Atelier At-Large benefits (listed below), the Atelier Studio Program provides members with regular scheduled access to our 2,400 square foot open studio in the King Plow Arts Center. The studio will be shared by no more than three artists at a time. Working within a community of artists offers structure and motivation—mitigating the isolation that often times keeps one from working at their best. The dynamic environment of a shared studio lends itself to the cross-pollination of ideas, the opportunity to learn from others, and the creation of a supportive artistic community. The potential for growth in a supportive group setting is tremendous. While we all develop at different rates and in different ways, the issues we face as artists are UNIVERSAL. Watching how others grow and develop over time, helps each of is to grow and develop on our own. Limited storage space is provided, with additional space for a fee.

Atelier At-Large Program
New term begins January 2012
Cost: $255/month
One-on-on Guidance
Michael David will critique, motivate, and assist you in finding your own voice as an artist, developing your work and preparing you to take it to a wider audience, should you so desire.
Group Critiques
Atelier Program members (both studio and and at-large) meet, along with Michael David, approximately twice a month to share and critique each other’s work. You can chose to present your work or just observe or comment. Critiques are fast paced, rigorous, supportive, and fun, and provide an amazing opportunity to learn from each other’s work and observations. As with all Fine Arts Workshop programs, group critiques place a premium on honest and authentic feedback that is mindful, supportive, and sensitive to where each individual is in their development as an artist. If a teacher is not honest in their criticism, than you will never trust their praise.
Guest visits
Regular visits by prominent gallerists such as Fay Gold and curators to look at and critique Atelier member’s work, provide invaluable insight from, and avenues of access to, the larger world of the art market.
